Maria Matheou is a Junior Professor at ILEK, department of the university of Stuttgart, and a post doctoral researcher at the University of Cyprus from Sep 2015 until now. Her academic qualifications started in her homeland with a bachelor degree in architecture at the university of Cyprus. Later, she continued her studies with a phd in architecture. Maria Matheou's research interests lie primarily in the areas of structural and architectural design, kinetic architecture, adaptive structures and envelopes, automation systems, design methods and digital tools. Current research focuses on an adaptive kinetic envelope to improve its kinetic behaviour, daylight performance, and mitigate urban heat islands. She is the supervisor of a phd student at the university, and collaborates with her for their research in Interdisciplinary Design of a Dual-Functional Adaptive Kinetic Façade.
