Dr Panagiotis Charalambous is responsible for the environmental management and operation of the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) at Charalambides Christis Ltd, Cyprus’s leading dairy industry. His work focuses on ensuring full compliance with environmental legislation and standards, overseeing the efficient treatment of industrial wastewater, and promoting sustainable practices across all company operations. In addition, he contributes to initiatives related to energy efficiency, pollution prevention, and circular economy practices, fostering a strong culture of environmental awareness and responsibility within the organization.

Dr Charalambous holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), where his research focused on optimizing the anaerobic digestion of dairy industry wastewater—particularly the anaerobic utilization of cheese whey using zero-valent iron (ZVI)—to enhance energy efficiency and biogas quality. He also holds an MSc in Environmental Biosciences and Technology from the Cyprus University of Technology, and a B.Sc. in Environmental Chemistry from the Charles University of Prague. His research, conducted within the Environmental Engineering Laboratory at CUT, has been published in several international scientific journals, demonstrating his active contribution to the advancement of wastewater treatment and sustainable environmental technologies.
